Pabna, Dec 08 (V7N) – Nafiul Karim Sohan, a 23-year-old university student, was found dead at his family home in Dighulia village, Faridpur upazila, after visiting during a university break. His parents allege that Sohan was murdered by his uncle and cousins over a land dispute, but the accused have yet to be arrested, leaving the family in fear for their safety.
Sohan, a student of the 43rd batch of the Pharmacy Department at Gono University, had eaten dinner and gone to bed on the night of June 8. The next morning, his parents discovered his lifeless body. Following this, Sohan’s mother, Nasima Akter, filed a murder case in the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court of Pabna on August 4 against six individuals, including Sohan’s uncle Ibrahim Hossain, Nazrul Islam, and their relatives.
According to the family, tensions began after they purchased land near their home, leading to repeated threats from Sohan’s uncle and cousins. The family claims that after declaring Sohan dead at the local hospital, the accused forcibly took the body, performed funeral rites without consent, and denied the family the chance to conduct proper arrangements. Since filing the court case, the family says the suspects continue to move freely and have threatened them.
Faridpur Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shakil Azam stated that the police registered the case on December 5 following court orders, and investigations, including autopsy procedures, are underway. He added that arrests will be made once evidence is established.
Ibrahim Hossain, the primary accused, denied involvement, claiming that the funeral and body handling were conducted openly in the presence of locals and that allegations of murder are false.
Sohan’s parents continue to demand immediate arrests and justice, expressing extreme concern for their security while the accused remain at large.
