Dhaka, Feb 26 (V7N) — Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Aminul Islam has said that the internal division among members of the prosecution will not affect the tribunal’s ongoing trials.
He made the remarks at a briefing at the tribunal on Thursday.
The Chief Prosecutor acknowledged that proceedings had slowed in recent days due to conflicting allegations between two sides within the prosecution. However, he expressed confidence that the dispute would be resolved soon and emphasized that the judicial process would continue uninterrupted.
He said the tribunal remains committed to ensuring justice, adding that no innocent person will be harassed and no criminal will escape accountability.
Regarding the acquittal of war crimes convict Khan Akram, Aminul Islam said the Appellate Division issued its order following the legal precedent set in the case in which Jamaat leader ATM Azharul Islam was acquitted of the death penalty.
The prosecution’s internal dispute — centered on allegations of bribery — has drawn significant public criticism in recent days, though tribunal authorities maintain that the trial process remains on track.
