Rajshahi, Aug 05 (V7N) — The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) has fined a popular sweet shop in Rajshahi Tk15,000 for allegedly producing sweet products without a mandatory quality certification licence and failing to comply with proper labelling requirements.
The fine was imposed during a mobile court operation conducted by the BSTI Rajshahi divisional office at Olympia Sweets in Horogram Bazar area of Rajshahi city on Tuesday morning.
According to BSTI officials, the establishment was producing, selling and distributing sweet products without obtaining the required BSTI Certification Mark (CM) licence. The authorities also found irregularities in the labelling of fermented milk products, including yoghurt and buttermilk, where mandatory information such as production date, expiry date and other required details were reportedly missing.
The mobile court imposed the financial penalty on the establishment under relevant laws for violating quality control regulations.
The mobile court was conducted by Rajshahi District Administration Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md. Shahriar Islam Nasif. BSTI Certification Marks Wing official Engineer Junaid Ahmed acted as the prosecution representative during the operation.
Members of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police assisted the authorities during the raid.
BSTI officials said similar operations would continue regularly across the region to prevent adulteration, ensure food safety and encourage businesses to maintain required quality standards in production and marketing.
