Dhaka, Feb 19 (V7N) — Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal, Mohammad Tajul Islam, has said that proceedings in the July killings case will continue as scheduled, noting that the tribunal has received a “green signal” from the current Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) government.

He made the remarks while speaking to reporters on Thursday (February 19) after testimony was recorded in the case.

Families of Victims Testify

During Thursday’s hearing, the father of Shaheed Fazle Rabbi and the father of Shaheed Tanha testified before the tribunal against seven accused individuals in connection with the July killings. Among those named are former Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader as well as the president and general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League.

According to tribunal sources, the witnesses described the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the two victims, recounting the events that led to what they termed brutal killings.

Other Cases and Hearing Dates

The testimony took place before the judicial panel of International Crimes Tribunal-2. Meanwhile, proceedings in the disappearance and torture case related to a TFI cell of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have been deferred to February 25.

Separately, testimony in the Gazipur disappearance and murder case is scheduled to be heard on March 2, keeping the tribunal’s docket active with multiple high-profile cases.

Officials say the continuation of hearings signals the tribunal’s intent to move forward with pending cases amid heightened public attention.
