Dhaka, July 10 (V7N)- The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has maintained Local Warning Signal No. 3 for the seaports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra, warning that gale-force winds may continue to affect the country's coastal areas despite the weakening of the low-pressure system.
The latest weather bulletin, issued on Friday and signed by Meteorologist Dr. Md. Omar Faruk, said the well-marked low pressure over northwestern Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas of India has weakened into a low-pressure area.
According to the bulletin, the system is now located over central Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas and is expected to weaken further gradually.
However, the Met Office said the pressure gradient over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas remains high, creating favorable conditions for gale-force winds over the northern Bay, Bangladesh's coastal belt and nearby seaports.
In view of the prevailing weather conditions, the Meteorological Department has instructed the seaports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra to continue displaying Local Warning Signal No. 3.
The BMD has also advised all fishing boats and trawlers operating in the North Bay of Bengal to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
Authorities have urged coastal residents, fishermen and maritime operators to remain alert and follow official weather advisories as unsettled conditions are expected to persist.
