Jhalokathi, Aug 26 (V7N) - An awareness meeting on the harmful effects of drug addiction and measures to prevent substance abuse was held at Amua Shaheed Raja Degree College in Kathalia upazila of Jhalokathi on Tuesday (Aug 25).
The meeting was held at the college auditorium, with Jhalokathi Deputy Commissioner Md Momin Uddin attending as the chief guest. Kathalia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Mokbul Hossain chaired the event, while the college’s acting principal, Md Abdul Halim, delivered the welcome address.
Among those present were Assistant Commissioner of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Mostafizur Rahman, Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sumi Rani Bol, Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Kathalia Police Station Haran Chandra Pal, Kathalia upazila BNP acting president Md Jalalur Rahman Akon, and Upazila Muktijoddha Command convenor Md Fazlur Haque Mridha.
Senior journalist Faruk Hossain Khan, Headteacher of Amua Chalitabunia Girls’ Secondary School Md Shafiqul Alam, College Teachers’ Council General Secretary and Assistant Professor Md Yusuf Ali, and student Masuma Akter Poly, among others, spoke at the meeting.
The speakers highlighted the harmful effects of drug abuse on individuals, families and society and stressed the importance of raising awareness among students and young people to prevent substance abuse.
Before the meeting, Chief Guest Deputy Commissioner Md Momin Uddin inaugurated the newly constructed, visually appealing entrance gate of Amua Shaheed Raja Degree College.
