Dhaka, April 27 (V7N)- The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast rain and thunderstorms accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds across several regions of the country, prompting warning signals at inland river ports.
According to a bulletin issued on Monday (April 27) valid from 6:30 am to 6 pm, winds with speeds of 60 to 80 kilometers per hour may sweep across Rangpur, Bogra, Tangail, Mymensingh, and Sylhet regions from the west or northwest direction. River ports in these areas have been instructed to display warning signal number 2.
Meanwhile, Dhaka, Madaripur, Faridpur, Comilla, Noakhali, Barisal, Chittagong, and Cox’s Bazar regions may experience gusty winds of 45 to 60 kilometers per hour, along with rain or thundershowers. River ports in these areas have been asked to display warning signal number 1.
In a separate forecast, the meteorological office warned of the formation of deep convective cloud systems over the northern part of the country. As a result, heavy (44–88 mm) to very heavy (over 88 mm) rainfall may occur in parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions over the next few days.
Such rainfall may lead to temporary waterlogging in low-lying areas, authorities cautioned.
Over the past 24 hours, the highest temperature in the country was recorded at 37°C in Rangamati, while the lowest temperature of 20°C was recorded in Dinajpur and Srimangal. The highest rainfall during this period was recorded in Rangpur, measuring 146 mm.
Authorities have advised river port users and residents in vulnerable areas to remain cautious and follow safety instructions.
