Rajshahi, April 22 (V7N) — The ongoing heat wave intensifying across Bangladesh reached a new peak on Tuesday, with Rajshahi recording the country's highest temperature at 39.5 degrees Celsius. The geographic spread of the heat wave has expanded from nine districts on Monday to 13 districts by Tuesday, signaling a sharp rise in summer intensity.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) confirmed that the heat wave is currently sweeping across all eight districts of the Rajshahi Division, as well as Khulna, Jessore, Kushtia, Tangail, and Faridpur. In Rajshahi alone, the mercury rose by 1.5 degrees Celsius in just 24 hours, up from Monday’s high of 38 degrees Celsius.
Meteorologist Mohammad Toriful Newaz Kabir noted that this warming trend is likely to persist until at least Wednesday. He warned that even if the temperature does not climb further, the existing levels will maintain a feeling of intense, sweltering heat across the affected regions.
While much of the country struggled with rising temperatures, the capital city, Dhaka, experienced a slight dip in heat. The temperature in Dhaka was recorded at 35.4 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, a minor decrease from Monday's 36.2 degrees Celsius.
The forecast for Wednesday indicates that the current temperature trend will likely remain unchanged, meaning the heat wave is expected to continue impacting various parts of the country for several more days. Residents in the northern and southwestern belts have been advised to take precautions against the extreme heat.
