Orlando, Jun 11 (V7N) – England completed their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with an impressive 3-0 victory over Costa Rica in a friendly match that was delayed by an hour due to heavy rain in Florida, United States, on Thursday.
Playing at Inter&Co Stadium, England dominated from the outset and controlled possession throughout the match.
The Three Lions took the lead in the eighth minute when Declan Rice produced an excellent finish from a tight angle. England continued to create opportunities and came close to extending their advantage on several occasions during the first half, including a shot that struck the post.
Coach Thomas Tuchel saw his side maintain their attacking momentum after the break. Their persistence paid off in the 67th minute when England were awarded a penalty following a handball inside the box after a move involving Jude Bellingham and Eberechi Eze.
Winger Anthony Gordon calmly converted the spot-kick a minute later to double England’s lead.
The final goal arrived in the 86th minute after substitute goalkeeper Abraham Madriz parried a shot from Morgan Rogers. Substitute striker Ollie Watkins reacted quickest, heading home the rebound to seal a convincing 3-0 victory.
The result gives England a significant confidence boost ahead of the tournament. The Three Lions will begin their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign against Croatia on June 17 as they seek to make a strong start in the competition.
