Dhaka, Sep 15 (V7N) – The Flood Forecasting and Warning Center (FFWC) has warned that low-lying areas in 12 districts may face flooding in the next three days as river water levels rise close to or above danger marks.
According to a notification issued on Sunday, water levels in the Dharla, Teesta, and Dudhkumar rivers in Rangpur division are expected to rise, with the Teesta and Dudhkumar likely to cross the danger level. Low-lying areas in Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, Rangpur, and Kurigram may be inundated.
In Sylhet and Mymensingh divisions, water in the Surma, Kushiyara, Sarigowain, Someshwari, Jadukata, and Bhogai-Kangsa rivers may rise within the warning limit, temporarily flooding low-lying areas of Sylhet, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, Mymensingh, Netrokona, and Sherpur districts.
Similarly, rivers in the Chittagong division—including the Halda, Sangu, Muhuri, Silonia, and Feni—may swell to warning levels, with temporary flooding possible in Feni and Chittagong districts.
Sardar Uday Raihan, Executive Engineer of the FFWC, cautioned that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in parts of the country over the next two days, which may further increase river water levels. He added that water from upstream regions could aggravate the situation, though levels are expected to recede gradually afterward.
