Dhaka, Nov 12 (V7N) — The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has clarified that the fire incident involving a police pickup van in front of Ramna Police Station in Kakrail was purely accidental and not the result of any act of sabotage.
The information was confirmed in a press release signed by DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Muhammad Talebur Rahman on Wednesday (November 12).
According to the statement, a single-cabin police pickup van broke down in front of the Ramna Police Station due to a mechanical fault. A mechanic was brought in to repair the vehicle, but despite repeated attempts, it could not be fixed. Eventually, the engine overheated, causing the vehicle to catch fire, leaving the mechanic slightly injured.
The DMP noted that some individuals on social media have been spreading misleading information about the incident. “In fact, it was just an accident,” the statement read. “We humbly request everyone not to spread confusion regarding this matter.”
Meanwhile, in a separate incident earlier in the day, a microbus caught fire in Uttara due to an overheated engine. Two fire service units promptly arrived at the scene and brought the blaze under control.
