Dhaka, Oct 15 (V7N) — From next Sunday (October 19), Dhaka’s metro rail service will operate for an additional hour each day, with both morning and night schedules extended by 30 minutes.

According to a press release from the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) — the agency responsible for the construction and operation of the metro rail — the new schedule aims to meet growing passenger demand and ease rush-hour congestion.

Under the revised timetable, the first train from Uttara North Station will depart at 6:40 am, instead of the current 7:10 am, while the last train will leave at 9:30 pm, half an hour later than before.

Similarly, from Motijheel Station, the first train will depart at 7:00 am instead of 7:30 am, and the last train will leave at 10:10 pm, extending the nighttime service. The final train from Motijheel is expected to reach Uttara North at around 11:45 pm.

On Fridays, metro rail services will now begin half an hour earlier, starting at 2:30 pm instead of 3:00 pm, and will also operate 30 minutes longer at night.

DMTCL also announced plans to increase the number of metro trips in mid-November, reducing the interval between two trains by at least two minutes.

Currently, 24 train sets, each consisting of six coaches, operate on the Uttara–Motijheel route. Of these, 12 sets are in constant passenger service. Once the extended hours and additional trips are implemented, 19 train sets will be deployed during operating hours.
