Porto, Sep 09 (V7N)- Manchester City continued their strong start to the new season with a 2-0 victory over Porto at the Estádio do Dragão in their Champions League opener, with Erling Haaland scoring both goals.
Under new coach Enzo Maresca, City have won all three of their opening Premier League matches. Level on points with Arsenal, the Citizens lead the table on goal difference and carried that impressive form into Europe.
City created several chances in the first half, but Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa kept the hosts in the game. In the 20th minute, Costa produced an excellent save to deny Haaland's header from a Phil Foden cross.
The Portuguese goalkeeper then made two more important saves from on-target City efforts in the 31st minute, keeping the score level at halftime.
After the break, Haaland finally found the breakthrough. The Norwegian forward connected with a cross from Enzo Fernández and headed the ball toward goal. Although the effort lacked power, Costa was wrong-footed and could not prevent it from finding the net.
City continued to dominate as Porto struggled to find a response.
Deep into stoppage time, Haaland struck again. This time, the Norwegian finished with a clever flick after meeting a cross from Rayan Aït-Nouri.
The brace secured a 2-0 victory for Manchester City and gave the Citizens an impressive opening to their Champions League campaign.
