Pabna, Sept 03 (V7N) — The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) organised a colourful rally in Ishwardi of Pabna on Wednesday to mark its 48th founding anniversary amid tight security.
The Ishwardi upazila and municipal units of the BNP organised the rally, which began from Alhaj Mor in the afternoon.
Hundreds of BNP leaders and activists joined the procession carrying banners, festoons, placards, and national and party flags. They also took part in the rally with music and slogans.
The procession passed through the main roads of Ishwardi town before ending at the railway gate, where a brief rally was held.
The programme was chaired by Ziaul Haque Santu Sardar, convener of the Ishwardi Upazila BNP. Habibur Rahman Habib, convener of the Pabna District BNP, addressed the gathering as the chief guest.
Ishwardi Upazila BNP Member Secretary Shariful Islam Tuhin, Municipal BNP Convener Mahbubur Rahman Palash and Member Secretary Imrul Kayes Sumon, along with other leaders of the upazila and municipal BNP and its affiliated organisations, also addressed the gathering.
The speakers alleged that some individuals identifying themselves as BNP activists have been engaging in various activities that are tarnishing the party’s image in Ishwardi.
They called on party leaders and activists to strengthen unity and organisation through the celebration of the BNP’s founding anniversary.
The speakers also warned that no one would be allowed to use the BNP’s name for extortion, illegal occupation or manipulation of tenders.
