Dhaka, Aug 26 (V7N) – The 56th Border Conference between the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and India’s Border Security Force (BSF) formally began in Dhaka this morning at the BGB headquarters in Pilkhana.
A 21-member Bangladesh delegation, led by BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, is attending the talks, while an 11-member Indian delegation, led by BSF Director General Shri Daljit Singh Chowdhury, IPS, is representing India. Senior officials from various border-related organizations of both countries are also present.
The multi-day conference will focus on critical bilateral issues, including:
-
Border killings and infiltration prevention
-
Curtailing drug, arms and contraband smuggling
-
Halting unauthorized infrastructure construction within 150 yards of the international border
-
Preservation and fair water sharing of border rivers
-
Strengthening joint border management strategies
Discussions will also address ways to ease tensions caused by anti-Bangladesh propaganda in Indian media, along with broader bilateral cooperation and border security matters.
The last BGB-BSF Director General-level conference was held in New Delhi in February, and this Dhaka round is being held in continuation of that dialogue.
