Narayanganj, Aug 20 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has begun the eviction of a bungalow belonging to former State Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid, which was constructed illegally on the banks of the Buriganga River.

The eviction drive took place in the Keraniganj area opposite Fatulla Launch Ghat at around 11 am on Thursday. During the operation, the boundary wall and internal buildings of the bungalow, spread over approximately 2 acres, were demolished.

Officials from BIWTA stated that the action was in line with a High Court directive issued in 2009 in response to a public interest writ petition. The agency added that all illegal structures within the boundary pillars will be removed in phases.

Earlier, on April 30, the court had ordered the seizure of Nasrul Hamid’s land worth Tk 200 crore in Gulshan. In a related case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on January 16, the court also barred Nasrul Hamid and his wife from traveling abroad. The ACC alleged that while serving as state minister, Nasrul Hamid abused his position to help his wife, Seema Hamid, acquire illegal assets worth Tk 69.8 million beyond known sources of income.

The ongoing eviction reflects the authorities’ commitment to recovering riverbank land and removing illegal structures, ensuring compliance with the High Court’s orders.
