Dhaka, Aug 03 (V7N) – The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced special traffic control measures in and around the capital’s Shahbagh area on Sunday, August 3, due to three major public gatherings scheduled throughout the day. City residents are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes.

In a public notice issued by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali, the police stated that large crowds are expected around Shahbagh, Central Shaheed Minar, and Suhrawardy Udyan, which may disrupt normal traffic flow in the area.

Scheduled Programs:

  • Student Rally at Shahbagh Intersection
    Time: 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM
    Organized to commemorate the first anniversary of the July-August Uprising.

  • NCP Rally at Central Shaheed Minar
    Time: 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM
    Organized by the National Citizens Party to demand the ‘July Declaration and Charter’.

  • ‘July Jagran’ at Suhrawardy Udyan
    Time: 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM (August 1–4)
    Organized by Saimum Shilpi Gosthi.

In light of these events, the DMP has urged HSC and BCS examinees to leave early to ensure timely arrival at their examination centers.

Traffic Diversions and Alternative Routes:

  1. Hotel Intercontinental Intersection:
    Vehicles coming from the north via Sonargaon Signal or Bangla Motor will not be allowed to proceed straight towards Shahbagh. They must turn left onto Hair Road or Mintu Road.

  2. Kataban Intersection:
    Vehicles coming from Science Lab will not be allowed to proceed towards Shahbagh. Instead, they should either turn right via Nilkhet or Palashi, or turn left towards Hatirpul Road and Bangla Motor Link Road.

  3. Matsya Bhaban Intersection:

    • Vehicles from High Court or Kadam Foara will not be allowed to proceed towards Shahbagh. They should continue straight via Hair Road or Shaheed Captain Mansur Ali Sarani (Moghbazar Road).

    • Vehicles from Kakrail Mosque area will also bypass Shahbagh, proceeding via High Court towards Gulistan or Dhaka University.

  4. TSC/Raju Bhaskarya Area:
    Vehicles coming from Nilkhet or Doyel Chattar will be diverted to avoid TSC and Shahbagh, continuing instead through alternative internal routes.

Restricted Zones:

  • Roads adjacent to Central Shaheed Minar

  • Entrances to Suhrawardy Udyan

The DMP has requested all residents and commuters to cooperate by following the diversions and avoiding high-traffic zones to ensure safety and order during these public events.
