Dhaka, May 14 (V7N) – Diploma nursing students staged a demonstration in the capital's Shahbagh area on Wednesday afternoon, demanding the recognition of their qualification as equivalent to a degree.
The protest began at around 1:45 PM, bringing traffic to a standstill in one of Dhaka’s busiest intersections. Commuters faced significant delays and inconvenience due to the road blockade.
The protestors, under the banner of the Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery Degree Implementation Committee, are calling for the immediate recognition of the "Diploma in Nursing Science and Midwifery" and "Diploma in Midwifery"—which are pursued after passing HSC—as equivalent to undergraduate (pass) degrees.
The agitating students declared that they will continue their movement until the government meets their demands, emphasizing that they deserve academic and professional parity with other degree holders.
