Bangladesh has appealed to the United States for duty-free and quota-free access to Bangladeshi Ready-Made Garments (RMG) manufactured from US cotton. Additionally, Bangladesh called upon the US government to create export opportunities for other Bangladeshi products like pharmaceuticals and ceramics, besides RMG. The country also emphasized the need for streamlining the registration process for pharmaceuticals.

During the US-Bangladesh TICFA Intercessional Meeting held at the Ministry of Commerce conference room in Bangladesh Secretariat, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Tapan Kanti Ghosh, led the Bangladesh delegation and highlighted these demands.

Ghosh emphasized the improved compliance of Bangladesh's RMG industry and underscored the role of RMG workers in representing the impoverished community. He suggested that providing duty-free access to the US market could contribute significantly to enhancing the living standards of these workers.

Drawing attention to the US's duty-free and quota-free access for products from least developed countries (LDCs) in Africa, Ghosh advocated for similar treatment for Asian countries, including Bangladesh.

The Commerce Secretary emphasized Bangladesh's progress in labor conditions and legal reforms. He argued that Bangladeshi RMG products deserve duty-free access in the US market considering various factors.

Furthermore, Bangladesh sought technological support from the US to enhance agricultural production and improve preservation systems. The government also requested assistance in standard certification for agricultural exports and ensuring necessary accreditation processes.
