The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has once again issued a three-day heat alert as the ongoing heatwave is forecasted to persist for the next 72 hours, starting from Monday.

In a warning signed by Meteorologist Bazlur Rashid, the Meteorological Department highlighted the potential increase in discomfort due to moisture incursion.

Meteorologist Bazlur Rashid stated, “Although there are some clouds over the country, which have slightly mitigated the intensity of the heat, the heatwave is expected to intensify again from Tuesday.”

Previously, the weather office had issued a heatwave alert for 72 hours starting from Friday.

According to the BMD, a very severe heatwave is currently sweeping over the Pabna and Chuadanga districts. Additionally, a severe heatwave is affecting Rajshahi, Tangail, Jessore, and Kushtia districts, while a mild to moderate heatwave is observed in Rangpur, Barisal, and Mymensingh divisions, as well as parts of Dhaka, Rajshahi, Khulna divisions, Srimangal, and Chandpur district.

The bulletin from the meteorological office also suggests that the heatwave condition may persist, with no significant change expected in the next five days, starting from 9 a.m. on Monday.

On Sunday, Chuadanga recorded the country's highest temperature at 42.2°C, while 56mm of rain fell in the 24 hours leading up to 6 a.m. on Monday.

The forecast predicts that rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds may occur at one or two places over Mymensingh, Chittagong, and Sylhet divisions, with isolated occurrences of hail. Meanwhile, the weather is expected to remain mainly dry with a temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere across the country.

During this period, the day temperature may experience a slight decrease, while the night temperature is likely to remain nearly unchanged nationwide.
