Faridpur, Oct 09 (V7N)- State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid has warned that Jamaat-e-Islami would bear responsibility if fascist forces return to power in Bangladesh, alleging that the party is working behind the scenes to undermine the political process.

She made the remarks on Friday afternoon while addressing a protest march and rally organized by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Nagarkanda, Faridpur, against what the party described as terrorism, anarchy and instability across the country.

Shama Obaid said Bangladesh had endured 17 years of alleged repression, including attacks, lawsuits and enforced disappearances. She added that forces associated with the previous authoritarian system were attempting to regain influence after students and the public helped bring an end to the previous rule.

She called on political parties to play their proper roles in a democratic system and urged BNP leaders and activists to remain vigilant against the return of autocratic forces.

Addressing the energy sector, Shama Obaid accused the Awami League of widespread corruption in the electricity sector. She also criticized the lack of progress during the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus.

She said the current government was working to restore normalcy in the sector and was emphasizing electricity generation using domestic resources.

The state minister also said the BNP opposed attempts to conceal or insult the contributions of freedom fighters, urging party leaders and activists to uphold the country's historical legacy.

The protest march began at the Nagarkanda Sadar petrol pump, passed through the town's main roads and ended with a rally at the Nagarkanda MN Academy ground.

BNP leaders, activists and representatives of various party-affiliated organizations attended the programme.
