Dhaka, Jun 25 (V7N)- The Padma Bridge, a landmark infrastructure project that transformed connectivity between the capital and the southwestern region of Bangladesh, has completed four years since its inauguration. During this period, more than 26.7 million vehicles have crossed the bridge, generating over Tk 3,394 crore in toll revenue.
The information was confirmed by Abu Saad Niloy, Executive Engineer of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge.
According to official data, following its inauguration in June 2022, a total of 2,790,465 vehicles used the bridge during the remainder of that year, generating Tk 402.96 crore in toll revenue.
In 2023, traffic increased significantly, with 6,257,494 vehicles crossing the bridge. Toll collection during the year reached Tk 814.68 crore.
The upward trend continued in 2024, when 6,734,904 vehicles used the bridge, contributing Tk 836.45 crore in toll revenue.
The highest annual traffic volume was recorded in 2025, when 7,241,587 vehicles crossed the bridge. Toll collection also reached a record high of Tk 888.82 crore during the year.
According to the latest figures for 2026, up to June 23, a total of 3,690,781 vehicles have already used the bridge, generating Tk 451.54 crore in toll revenue.
Overall, from June 25, 2022, to June 23, 2026, a total of 26,715,231 vehicles crossed the Padma Bridge, while toll earnings amounted to Tk 3,394.45 crore.
Officials say the bridge has not only improved transportation and reduced travel time but has also significantly boosted economic activities across the southern region of the country. Increased accessibility has encouraged trade, investment, tourism, and industrial development, leading to a steady rise in traffic volume each year.
The 6.15-kilometer Padma Bridge was inaugurated on June 25, 2022, by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after years of construction and planning. The bridge was officially opened to vehicular traffic the following day, on June 26, marking a new chapter in Bangladesh's transportation infrastructure.
