PABNA, May 17 (V7N ) — State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku said the government is working to expand Bangladesh’s capacity to export meat to international markets.

He made the comments while speaking to reporters today after visiting the Bengal Meat Processing Factory in Pabna, according to a press release.

Tuku noted that the government is also prioritizing foreign currency earnings through the export of locally produced goods and farm-based products, while continuing to meet domestic demand.

The state minister added that the government is taking steps to help marginalized communities and farmers become economically self-reliant.

“We have abundant resources. We are looking at how to use them to further strengthen the country’s economy going forward, especially how marginalized communities and farmers can benefit and how employment opportunities for them can be increased,” he said.

In response to a question from journalists, he said Bengal Meat is producing and processing meat using scientific and safe methods and is already exporting on a limited scale. He added that the government will examine what support can be provided to remove any barriers to exports.

During the visit, he inspected the factory’s production operations, hygienic meat processing system, quality control measures, preservation methods, and overall activities.

Also present were Prime Minister’s Special Assistant Syed Bin Abdullah; Pabna-2 constituency lawmaker AKM Selim Reza Habib; Fisheries and Livestock Secretary Md Delwar Hossain; and Department of Livestock Services Director General Md. Shahzaman Khan, among others.

Later, the state minister visited the Baghabari Ghat Dairy Factory of the Bangladesh Milk Producers' Cooperative Union Limited (Milk Vita).

During the inspection, he reviewed the factory’s milk collection, processing, production activities, quality control systems, storage, and marketing operations.
