DHAKA, May 12, (V7N) – Prime Minister’s foreign affairs adviser M. Humayun Kabir has said Bangladesh will not be silenced if border killings continue, stressing that the country is not intimidated by barbed wire fencing.

Speaking to reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kabir stated: “Bangladesh is not afraid of barbed wire. Where we need to talk, we will talk.” He emphasized that the government will raise its voice whenever necessary to protect national interests.

Kabir urged the Indian government to adopt a more humane approach to border security if it wishes to strengthen people-to-people relations. His remarks followed West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s announcement that land transfer to the Border Security Force for fencing the frontier had begun. Kabir noted that election rhetoric and governance are different, and Bangladesh would observe whether the new West Bengal administration translates its words into policy.

The adviser warned that Bangladesh would not remain silent if border killings persist, saying the frontier situation would not continue as in the past. At the same time, he underscored the importance of regional peace, dialogue, and constructive relations with neighboring countries despite challenges.

Kabir concluded by expressing hope that both Bangladesh and India’s leaderships would continue dialogue to resolve outstanding issues and advance bilateral ties.
