MAY 10 (V7N) - Bangladesh and Italy have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral ties, with a particular focus on establishing safer and more structured migration pathways. During a high-level meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office in Dhaka, the Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser, Humayun Kabir, and Italian Ambassador Antonio Alessandro engaged in comprehensive discussions to transition current migration trends into a more orderly and regular framework. Both nations expressed a firm intent to curb irregular migration while maximizing the potential of legal labor mobility.
Beyond migration, the dialogue highlighted significant opportunities for economic and industrial synergy. Ambassador Alessandro signaled Italy's strong interest in increasing imports of high-quality Bangladeshi products, ranging from ready-made garments and food items to leather goods. In return, the Italian delegation encouraged Bangladesh to integrate advanced Italian industrial machinery and modern technologies, which could serve as a catalyst for the modernization of Bangladesh’s manufacturing landscape.
The meeting also touched upon soft power and cultural diplomacy as tools for strengthening the friendship between the two countries. In a notable proposal, the Foreign Affairs Adviser invited premier Italian football clubs to visit Bangladesh for friendly matches, aimed at fostering people-to-people connections and a shared sporting culture. By exploring these new avenues in trade, defense, sports, and culture, both sides voiced optimism that the Bangladesh-Italy relationship is poised to reach new heights of strategic cooperation.
