Dhaka, May 05 (V7N) — Zubaida Rahman has said that healthcare services must be ensured for everyone, from newborns to the elderly, stressing that no one should be deprived of proper medical treatment.

She made the remarks during a discussion on establishing equality in healthcare held at Kurmitola General Hospital on Tuesday (May 5).

Speaking at the event, she described Bangladesh’s healthcare system as fragile, noting that government hospitals are under severe pressure and health workers are unevenly distributed. She said that access to quality healthcare remains a major challenge for the public.

She highlighted that approximately 72 percent of healthcare costs in Bangladesh are paid directly by individuals, adding that illness is a leading cause of poverty in the country.

Dr. Zubaida Rahman also pointed out that residents of areas such as Korail, Sattala, and Bhasantek play a vital role in sustaining urban life, yet many rely heavily on pharmacies for basic healthcare needs. She noted that around 42 percent of people in these areas seek treatment from pharmacies rather than formal healthcare facilities.

She expressed hope that marginalized communities will not continue to be excluded from proper healthcare services in the future.
