Dhaka, April 26 (V7N) — Prime Minister Tarique Rahman informed the Jatiya Sangsad on Sunday that the government has officially withdrawn the fuel oil rationing system for the police and other essential emergency services. Addressing a point of order in Parliament, the Leader of the House clarified that the embargo was lifted two days ago for law enforcement agencies, ambulances, and fire brigades to ensure that critical public safety operations are not hindered by logistical constraints.

The Prime Minister’s statement came in response to concerns raised by Manirul Haque Chowdhury, a treasury bench lawmaker from the Cumilla-6 constituency. Chowdhury pointed out that police administration had been reducing night patrols citing fuel shortages, which he argued led to a spike in criminal activities and disrupted public security. He specifically cited the recent killing of a young customs officer in Cumilla as a tragic example of the consequences of diminished police presence on the streets.

"We addressed the issue and cleared the decision two days ago," the Prime Minister told the House, which was chaired by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram. He expressed confidence that with the restoration of full fuel allocations, there should be no further excuses for reduced patrolling or delays in emergency responses.

The move is seen as a strategic effort to stabilize law and order following the government's recent fuel price adjustments and supply normalization. By prioritizing the mobility of the police and fire services, the administration aims to reassure the public and ensure that the state machinery remains fully operational in its primary duty of protecting citizens. The Prime Minister, who also serves as the Chairman of the ruling BNP, reiterated that the welfare and safety of the people remain the top priorities of his government.
