Dhaka, Apr 25 (V7N): Authorities in Bangladesh have ordered heightened security at key installations across the country following intelligence reports of potential sabotage plans by supporters of a banned extremist group.
According to a recent directive from Police Headquarters, all units—including Range Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), Metropolitan Police Commissioners, and District Superintendents—have been instructed to strengthen security, increase surveillance, and remain on high alert.
The directive stated that intelligence agencies have identified links between a recently arrested member of the extremist group, Ishtiaq Ahmed Sami, also known as Abu Bakr and Abu Mohammad, and two dismissed members of a security force. Their ongoing communication has raised serious security concerns.
Law enforcement sources indicated that the group may be planning attacks on critical locations, including the National Parliament complex, law enforcement facilities and personnel, places of worship, recreational centers, and key public areas such as Shahbagh in the capital. There are also indications that the group may target armories belonging to various security forces.
Authorities have described the individuals involved as posing a high risk to national security. In response, relevant agencies have been directed to enhance monitoring, ensure maximum protection of important infrastructure, and take immediate legal action against any suspects.
Multiple law enforcement officials confirmed that intelligence surveillance has already been intensified, and efforts are underway to identify those involved and bring them to justice in order to prevent any potential acts of sabotage.
