Dhaka, Feb 24 (V7N)- Salahuddin Ahmed, Home Minister, announced that since taking office, approval has been granted to withdraw 1,006 political harassment cases, adding to the 1,202 cases already cleared during the previous 17 years of the fascist government.

Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat around noon on Tuesday, the Home Minister clarified that the withdrawals concern cases filed for political purposes against activists, journalists, and citizens.

“The remaining cases under scrutiny—excluding cases related to murder, explosives, weapons, drugs, and violence against women and children—are being considered for withdrawal,” he said.

New Scrutiny for Political Cases

The Home Minister said he is planning additional initiatives to withdraw politically motivated cases after careful scrutiny. A committee may be formed to ensure the process is not misused, and a decision will be finalized shortly.

Cases After August 5

Salahuddin Ahmed also addressed harassment cases filed after August 5, noting that some were intended to target individuals opportunistically.

“We will investigate and ensure the rule of law is upheld. No one should be harassed through litigation,” he emphasized.

This move is part of the government’s broader effort to review politically motivated cases, restore justice, and strengthen legal fairness in the country.
