DHAKA, February 23, (V7N) — Sheikh Rabiul Alam, the Minister for Road Transport and Bridges, Railways, and Shipping, on Monday emphasized the government’s firm resolve to accelerate infrastructural development while strictly preventing wastage in construction projects. Speaking at the closing ceremony of a seven-day induction training course for 32 newly recruited officers of the 44th BCS (Roads and Highways) cadre, the minister called for an end to unethical practices to protect the country's greater interests.
During his address at the Road Transport and Highways Division conference room, Minister Rabiul Alam reminded the new engineers that their professional development was funded by the state to serve public needs. He urged the officials to maintain transparency and integrity, stressing that state funds are ultimately the people's money. He noted that while obstacles to state-focused dedication may arise, the commitment and innovative thinking of young officers are vital for bringing positive change to the sector.
State Minister Habibur Rashid also addressed the ceremony, focusing on the critical importance of road safety and safe infrastructure. He pointed out that the closure of even a single road causes immense suffering to thousands, making it essential to ensure uninterrupted traffic movement and reasonable construction costs. He expressed his vision of building a "safe and humane Bangladesh" under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, through the collaboration of both fresh and veteran officials.
State Minister Md. Razib Ahsan joined in congratulating the new officers, encouraging them to utilize the talent and competence honed at reputable educational institutions to serve the nation. He expressed high expectations that this new cohort would enhance the professional reputation of the department by performing their duties with sincerity and honesty.
The ceremony was presided over by Dr. Mohammed Ziaul Haque, Secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Division. High-ranking officials, including Syed Moinul Hasan, Chief Engineer of the Roads and Highways Department, and Faruk Ahmed, Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), were also in attendance. The training is expected to significantly bolster the administrative and moral responsibility of the newly appointed engineers as they begin their service.
