Dhaka, Sep 28 (V7N) – Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin has stated that if any allegation of rigging or disruption arises at an election center, the voting for that constituency will be postponed.
He made the remarks during a dialogue with civil society representatives at the Election Building on Sunday (September 28). The CEC emphasized that the dialogue is not merely a formality, but will play a crucial role in ensuring a fair election.
Since assuming office, the Election Commission (EC) has undertaken significant work, including updating the voter list and amending the RPO. Although postal ballots were previously allowed by law, they were not implemented; the current commission has worked to address this.
The CEC also said that about one million people previously unable to vote due to their involvement in election activities, including those in jail or government officials posted elsewhere, will now be able to cast their votes.
Meanwhile, former caretaker government advisor Rasheda K. Chowdhury remarked that meeting public expectations remains a key challenge for the EC.
Under the EC’s action plan, dialogues are being held with representatives of registered political parties, university teachers, civil society, women’s organizations, media editors, observer organizations, election experts, and July movement fighters. The EC expects the process to be completed within one to one and a half months.
