Dhaka, June 25 (V7N) — The Government of Bangladesh has officially declared August 8 as "New Bangladesh Day", commemorating the formation of an interim government under the leadership of Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. In addition, July 16 has been designated as "Shaheed Abu Sayeed Day" in remembrance of the death of Abu Sayeed, who was killed in a police shooting in Rangpur.

The announcements were made through two separate circulars issued by the Cabinet Division on Wednesday. The circulars call upon all relevant ministries, divisions, and agencies to observe these newly declared days each year with appropriate significance and respect.

Both dates have been categorized under Category 'B' in the Cabinet Division’s directive on the observance of national and international days. This classification implies a level of formal recognition that requires relevant state institutions to commemorate the days through various official and public programs.

Earlier, the government had declared August 5 as "July Mass Uprising Day", which has been placed under Category 'A', indicating a higher level of state observance. This day commemorates the mass uprising in July, considered a turning point in the country’s democratic and social movement.
