Dhaka, Jun 09 (V7N) — Principal Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus has reiterated the interim government's commitment to the growth of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Bangladesh, emphasizing their crucial role in the country's economy and employment generation.

In a message delivered on Monday (June 9) marking World Accreditation Day-2025, Professor Yunus highlighted the need for continued efforts from the Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB) and related organizations to foster sustainable industrialization, trade, and investment alongside SME development.

Expressing satisfaction over Bangladesh’s observance of the day, he extended greetings to BAB’s partners and stakeholders. He termed this year’s theme, “Accreditation: Empowering Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs),” as “timely in the current global context.”

“Small and medium enterprises are one of the main driving forces of the global economy. A large portion of our GDP is generated by this sector, which also plays a critical role in creating new employment opportunities,” said Professor Yunus.

However, he noted that SMEs face several challenges — including barriers to entry into international markets, rapidly changing consumer demands, and financial constraints. To tackle these issues, Professor Yunus stressed the importance of a global joint initiative.

He also underscored the role of accreditation in overcoming these challenges by ensuring quality throughout supply chains, developing skilled technical manpower, eliminating technical trade barriers, and facilitating access to international markets.

Since its inception, BAB has accredited 155 institutions, including laboratories, diagnostic centers, certification bodies, and inspection bodies, all meeting international standards.

Concluding his message, Professor Yunus wished success to all the programs organized on the occasion of World Accreditation Day 2025.
