Tokyo, May 29 (V7N) – Principal Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus has warned that the world is currently experiencing extreme uncertainty, with global trust declining at unprecedented levels. He delivered these remarks during his keynote address at the opening session of the 30th Nikkei Forum ‘Future of Asia’ held at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo on Thursday.

In his speech titled “Asia’s Challenges in a Globalizing World,” Professor Yunus highlighted that trust is eroding not only between nations but also within societies and even between citizens and their institutions. The world, he said, is becoming increasingly unstable amid rising tensions and the breakdown of peace.

“Peace is being destroyed, tensions are rising, and mutual cooperation is no longer guaranteed,” Yunus stated. He pointed to ongoing wars and man-made conflicts in regions including Ukraine, Gaza, and parts of South and Southeast Asia that have devastated countless lives and livelihoods.

Focusing on regional concerns, the Principal Advisor expressed deep sorrow over the brutal civil war in neighboring Myanmar, exacerbated by a recent earthquake, which has further intensified the country’s humanitarian crisis.

He also referred to the recent short but costly war between two neighboring countries, lamenting the billions spent on conflict while millions suffer from hunger and deprivation. Yunus extended gratitude to the leaders of both nations for agreeing to a ceasefire and voiced hope for lasting peace, stability, and coexistence in South Asia.

Professor Yunus’s address at the Nikkei Forum underscores the urgent need for international cooperation to rebuild trust and address the multifaceted crises threatening peace and development in Asia and beyond.
