Dhaka, April 03 (V7N) – Sharmin Murshid, Social Welfare Advisor to the interim government, has urged all political parties to adopt a reform-oriented mindset, warning that the toll from the recent mass uprising—30,000 disabled and 1,500 dead—cannot be forgotten or ignored.
She made these remarks while addressing a discussion event titled “PFS: Pollution and Public Health in Bangladesh”, organized by Water Keepers Bangladesh at a hotel in the capital on Saturday (April 3) afternoon.
“This bloodshed cannot be erased from history. Political parties must respond with a sense of responsibility and a commitment to reform,” said Murshid. She added that safeguarding public health is not possible without protecting the environment.
“If our environment collapses, people cannot be protected. The government and political parties must work together to save our rivers and people from toxic chemical pollution,” she stressed.
Also speaking at the event, Jonayed Saki, coordinator of the Mass Solidarity Movement, echoed her call and emphasized the need for new political, economic, and environmental frameworks to address the challenges facing Bangladesh.
The discussion drew participation from researchers, political representatives, and environmental activists, who highlighted the growing threats of pollution and the urgent need for integrated national action.
