Washington, Aug 20 (V7N)- The number of US service members wounded since the start of the war with Iran has risen to 757, according to updated US Department of Defense casualty data.

The Pentagon updated its Defense Casualty Analysis System (DCAS) database on Wednesday (August 19), adding information on more than 50 newly recorded injuries.

According to a combined analysis of data from the DCAS ‘Overseas Operations’ section and casualties recorded under ‘Operation Epic Fury’, 18 US service members have been killed and 757 wounded since the conflict began on February 28.

The Pentagon introduced a separate ‘Overseas Operations’ category in the casualty database last month to track US service members killed or wounded from July 7 onward. However, the Defense Department has not specified which particular conflicts are linked to all casualties listed under that category.

The latest update comes amid ongoing uncertainty over the conflict and stalled diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran to reach an agreement to end the war.

Earlier, discrepancies in Pentagon casualty figures had drawn attention after some deaths and injuries temporarily disappeared from the database. The Defense Department attributed the discrepancies to a temporary data error.
