Dhaka, Aug 14 (V7N)- Gas supply from the Summit LNG Terminal has been suspended due to adverse weather conditions and rough seas, further reducing gas supply to the national grid.
Gas supply from the terminal began on Thursday (August 13) afternoon but was later suspended because of the deteriorating sea conditions. The Energy Department confirmed the development.
At present, around 190 million cubic feet of gas is being supplied to the national grid through the Accelerate Energy LNG Terminal. The suspension of gas supply from Summit has further reduced the overall availability of gas.
The development has raised concerns that the country's ongoing gas crisis could worsen further, particularly as demand remains high.
Meanwhile, Power and Energy Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmud said the government does not have any immediate solution to the country's energy and power crisis.
Speaking virtually at a CPD seminar on energy, he said the situation could improve sustainably only after implementing various long-term initiatives, including the construction and installation of LNG infrastructure and drilling of new gas wells.
The minister emphasized that strengthening the country's energy infrastructure would be essential to ensure a stable and sustainable gas supply in the future.
