Rangamati, Oct 10 (V7N) – An orientation session was held in Rangamati on Thursday for local journalists ahead of the nationwide free typhoid vaccination campaign for children aged 9 months to under 15 years and students from pre-primary to ninth grade. The session aimed to raise awareness and prepare media personnel to support the initiative.
The program took place at the conference hall of the Rangamati Deputy Commissioner’s office under the “Awareness Campaign on Child, Adolescent, and Women Development” project, organized by the District Information Office. The session was chaired by Deputy Director of the Rangamati District Information Office, Rahul Banik.
District Commissioner Mohammad Habib Ullah Maruf attended as the chief guest. Special guests included Rangamati Civil Surgeon Dr. Nuwen Khisa, Deputy Director of the Islamic Foundation Muhammad Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury, and Rangamati Press Club President Anwar Al Haque. Director of the Department of Mass Communication, Anusua Barua, joined virtually to deliver the welcome remarks.
During the session, a multimedia presentation highlighted that the nationwide typhoid vaccination campaign 2025 will begin on October 12. According to global surveys, approximately 478,000 people in Bangladesh contracted typhoid in 2021, resulting in 8,000 deaths, of which 68% were children.
Speakers emphasized that many parents in remote areas remain hesitant to vaccinate their children, often due to rumors and misinformation. They urged journalists to play a crucial role in combating misconceptions and promoting the vaccination program to ensure widespread coverage and child safety.
