DHAKA, May 30, (V7N) — Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Husain said on Saturday that a bakery was found operating inside Ad-din Medical College Hospital in Moghbazar.

Speaking to reporters after inspecting the hospital, he said the bakery is located on the ground floor and runs two electric ovens. “There is no engineer assigned to it. This should not have happened,” he said, adding that authorities are checking whether any gas emissions were released from the facility.

The minister said the bakery prepared food for thousands of medical students and that inspectors found large amounts of dirt and unhygienic conditions. He said the matter will be thoroughly investigated and strict action taken if necessary.

The inspection follows the deaths of six newborns at the hospital in the early hours of May 27. The Health and Family Welfare Ministry has formed a three-member probe committee to investigate that incident.
