July 17, (V7N) – Rajshahi City Corporation (RASIC) Administrator Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Riton distributed food items and wheelchairs among the poor and disabled people of Rajshahi metropolis on Friday afternoon.
The distribution programme was held at the Dream Garden Community Centre adjacent to Shaheed Zia Shishu Park, organised by Lifat Protibandhi Foundation Cooperative Society. More than four hundred underprivileged and disabled individuals received food supplies and wheelchairs at the event.
Speaking as chief guest, RASIC Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton said, "We are working to implement the directives of Honourable Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Rajshahi City Corporation has always worked for the welfare of the underprivileged and will continue to support such humanitarian initiatives in the future. Overall cooperation will be provided to build a specialised hospital for the disabled in Rajshahi."
He also urged everyone to plant at least one tree sapling to contribute to the success of the Prime Minister's 250 million tree plantation programme. "The developmental works that are still unfinished in Rajshahi Metropolitan City will be completed soon. We are striving to ensure the development of the city and citizen services," he added.
The event was chaired by Lifat Foundation Chairman Riaz Sikder, with keynote addresses from Nasim Khan, a member of Shah Makhdum Thana BNP and advisory secretary of the foundation. Rajshahi Metropolitan Jubo Dal Convener Shariful Islam Joni and Protibandhi Self-Help Organisation President Mominul Islam also spoke.
Leaders of BNP and its affiliates, dignitaries, and people from different walks of life were present at the event, which was moderated by Md. Johnny of Lifat Foundation.
