DHAKA, May 11, (v7n) – Pakistan all-rounder Salman Ali Agha has vowed that his team will push for victory on the final day of the opening Test against Bangladesh, regardless of the target set.
With rain interruptions cutting into playing time, Bangladesh ended Day 4 with a lead of 179 runs. Salman said Pakistan would not settle for a draw if given sufficient overs and a manageable chase. “We will definitely go for the win. If they give us around 70 overs and a target near 260, we will absolutely chase it. But I don’t think they will take that risk,” he remarked.
He emphasized Pakistan’s immediate goal is to dismiss Bangladesh quickly in their second innings to leave enough time for a chase. “Tomorrow should be a very exciting day of Test cricket. Our first target is to bowl them out as early as possible,” Salman said.
The all-rounder believes Bangladesh will likely aim to bat Pakistan out of contention rather than risk setting a chaseable target. “I’m not saying Bangladesh are not brave, but I think their best option is to take us completely out of the game before giving us a target,” he explained.
Salman added that Pakistan would adopt a similar approach if roles were reversed: ensuring the opposition had no chance of winning before setting a target. The final day promises a tense battle between Bangladesh’s defensive strategy and Pakistan’s determination to chase victory.
