Milan, Italy, May 4 (V7N) – Inter Milan secured their third Serie A title in six seasons on Sunday after a dominant 2-0 victory over Parma at the San Siro, sending fans into wild celebrations both at the stadium and across the city. Marcus Thuram’s side-footed goal just before halftime put Inter ahead, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan's second-half strike sealing the win and the Scudetto for the Nerazzurri.
With three matches remaining, Inter have established an unassailable 12-point lead over defending champions Napoli and a 15-point advantage over third-placed AC Milan. The jubilant celebrations spread throughout Milan, with thousands gathering outside the iconic Duomo cathedral to mark the club’s 21st Italian title.
This triumph is a remarkable turnaround for Inter, who endured a turbulent end to the previous season. Under the calm leadership of coach Cristian Chivu, who took over last summer, the team has bounced back after narrowly missing the 2025 title and suffering a humiliating 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final.
Inter’s resurgence can largely be credited to the rejuvenating influence of Cristian Chivu, the club's former player and surprise appointment in June. After the departure of Simone Inzaghi, who left for a lucrative deal in Saudi Arabia after leading the club to six trophies and two Champions League finals, Chivu has quietly breathed new life into the squad. With minimal signings and gradual improvements, the team has thrived.
Inter now have the chance to complete a historic league and cup double if they defeat Lazio in the Coppa Italia final on May 13 at the Olympic Stadium in Rome.
Elsewhere, Juventus missed an opportunity to capitalize on AC Milan's slip-up and take third place in Serie A, drawing 1-1 at home against relegated Verona. Despite dominating possession and registering 23 shots, Juventus couldn’t break down Verona’s defense, with Verona scoring their opener from a poor pass that led to Domagoj Bradaric's assist for Kieron Bowie’s goal. Dusan Vlahovic leveled for Juventus with a 25-meter free-kick.
AC Milan’s hopes of catching Inter at the top were effectively dashed after a 2-0 defeat at mid-table Sassuolo. Milan had a nightmare afternoon, suffering their fourth defeat in the last seven matches. The team played with 10 men for most of the match after Fikayo Tomori’s red card in the 24th minute, and Sassuolo took full advantage, with Domenico Berardi scoring early and Armand Lauriente doubling their lead in the second half.
Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri expressed frustration after the defeat, acknowledging the fans' disappointment and reiterating the need for a strong finish to secure Champions League qualification. "We have three matches left to play, and with two wins, we'll be in the Champions League," Allegri stated.
- Inter Milan – 1st, with 12 points clear of Napoli
- Napoli – 2nd
- AC Milan – 3rd, struggling to maintain Champions League qualification
- Juventus – 4th, three points ahead of Como in the race for the final Champions League spot
With just a few matches left, Serie A's top positions are almost settled, but the battle for third place and Champions League qualification remains intense.
