TEHRAN, May 10 (V7N) — Iran’s Revolutionary Guards threatened to strike US installations if Iranian tankers are attacked, following American airstrikes on two vessels in the Gulf of Oman.
The Guards declared that “any assault on Iranian tankers or commercial ships will trigger a heavy strike on American centres and enemy fleets.” The warning came as Washington awaited Tehran’s reply to a peace proposal relayed via Pakistani mediators.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in a call with Turkey’s counterpart, questioned US credibility, citing repeated ceasefire violations in the Persian Gulf.
On Friday, a US fighter jet disabled two Iranian‑flagged tankers accused of breaching a blockade. Iranian forces retaliated with strikes. The incident followed clashes in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital oil artery that Tehran seeks to control for leverage.
Washington insists Iran cannot dominate the route. Britain announced deployment of a naval destroyer as part of coalition planning to secure shipping lanes once a truce is stabilized.
Satellite imagery revealed a large oil slick off Kharg Island, Iran’s key export hub. Observers suggested leaking infrastructure as the likely cause. The spill has since diminished but underscores the fragility of Iran’s battered oil sector.
Meanwhile, the Lebanon ceasefire is fraying. Israeli strikes killed at least eight in southern Lebanon, with raids extending near Beirut. Hezbollah responded with drone attacks into northern Israel, wounding reservists. Direct Lebanon–Israel talks are scheduled in Washington, though Hezbollah opposes them.
