Narayanganj, May 10 (V7N)- Five members of the same family were severely burnt in a gas explosion at a residential building in the Bhuigarh Giridhara area of Narayanganj on Sunday morning.
The incident occurred around 7:00am in an eight-storey building when a powerful explosion rocked a flat on the west side of the ground floor.
According to local residents, the blast was so loud that nearby people rushed to the scene immediately. They later rescued Md. Kalam, his wife Salma, and their three children—Munna, Munni, and Katha—in critically burnt condition.
The injured were first taken to local medical care and later shifted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery for advanced treatment.
Fire Service personnel arrived at the scene shortly after being informed and began an initial investigation into the cause of the explosion.
Officials from the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence said preliminary findings suggest a possible gas leak in the building’s pipeline system. They believe gas had accumulated inside a closed room, and the explosion may have occurred when someone attempted to ignite a lighter in the morning.
However, authorities emphasized that the exact cause of the explosion will only be confirmed after a full investigation is completed.
The tragic incident has once again raised concerns about residential gas safety and pipeline maintenance in densely populated urban areas.
