Dhaka, Sep 21 (V7N)- BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said fuel prices in Bangladesh remain lower than in many other countries, despite the latest price adjustment amid the global energy crisis.
He made the remarks at a press conference at the BNP central office in Nayapaltan on Monday afternoon.
Rizvi said the government was continuing to provide subsidies on fuel and would still incur losses even after the latest adjustment. Bangladesh raised the prices of diesel, octane, petrol and kerosene by Tk 20 per litre from Monday, setting them at Tk 135, Tk 165, Tk 160 and Tk 155 respectively.
He attributed the pressure on fuel prices to the international crisis and said the government was making efforts to address the country's energy situation.
Rizvi also warned that action would be taken against individuals within the administration whom he accused of being aligned with what he described as undemocratic and fascist forces.
He alleged that some people inside the administration were attempting to create disorder and undermine the government. He said measures had already been taken against several individuals over alleged involvement in such activities. These allegations were not independently verified.
The BNP leader said leaders and activists of the party's affiliated and associate organisations would organize meetings, rallies and other programmes to counter what he described as misinformation being spread across the country.
He also said the reception event involving the United States had been cancelled in the interest of the country and the welfare of the people.
Rizvi called for continued efforts to address the fuel and energy crisis, saying political discussions should focus on practical solutions to the challenges facing the country.
