Dhaka, Sep 25 (V7N)- Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Mozammel Haque has accused the opposition of attempting to destabilize the government and the country through activities outside Parliament.
He made the remarks on Friday (September 25) at a rally held in front of the National Press Club ahead of a procession organized by the Jatiyatabadi Tati Dal.
Mozammel Haque said the opposition should cooperate with the government in the process of nation-building rather than pursuing programmes aimed at putting pressure on the government outside Parliament.
He alleged that while opposition lawmakers may raise issues inside Parliament, their activities outside the House are aimed at creating instability in the country.
Referring to opposition programmes, the minister said long marches and calls to remove the government reminded him of political developments during the 1990s. He alleged that similar efforts were previously made against the government led by Sheikh Hasina.
Mozammel Haque further claimed that the public does not support programmes that could lead to violence or instability, saying people want political stability and elections to be held at regular five-year intervals.
He said the BNP should focus on serving the people and taking responsibility for governing the country rather than relying on threats or intimidation.
The minister also said what he described as a politics of sabotage and intimidation would not be effective.
His remarks came amid continuing political disagreements between the government and opposition parties over political programmes and the country’s governance.
