Dhaka, Sep 25 (V7N)- Fish prices in Dhaka have remained high despite increased supplies, with traders attributing the latest rise to higher transportation costs following the recent fuel price hike.
Fish vendors said prices of most varieties have increased by Tk 30 to Tk 50 per kilogram compared with last week.
The price of farmed Rui and Katla has risen above Tk 400 per kilogram, while popular river fish are selling for Tk 1,000 to Tk 1,200 per kilogram.
Hilsa supplies remain relatively high, and prices have fallen by Tk 200 to Tk 300 per kilogram. However, the fish remains beyond the reach of many low-income consumers. An 800–900 gram Hilsa is currently selling for around Tk 2,000 to Tk 2,200.
Vegetable prices have also increased compared with last week, with traders citing higher transportation costs following the fuel price adjustment.
Traders said vegetable prices may decline in the coming weeks when the supply of winter vegetables increases. However, consumers said the continued rise in essential food prices is putting additional pressure on household budgets.
Egg prices have also remained high. A dozen red eggs are selling for around Tk 145 at some outlets, while neighborhood shops are charging about Tk 150.
The price of broiler chicken has increased by Tk 10 per kilogram, while layer chicken is selling for around Tk 370 per kilogram. Sonali chicken is priced at Tk 300 to Tk 320 per kilogram.
Meanwhile, beef and mutton prices have remained unchanged. Beef is selling for Tk 780 to Tk 800 per kilogram, while mutton costs around Tk 1,250 per kilogram.
