CHITTAGONG, May 30 (V7N) — Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain on Saturday called for national unity to counter what he described as anti-development conspiracies aimed at obstructing the country’s progress and democratic gains.
Speaking at a tribute programme marking the 45th martyrdom anniversary of BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman at historic Biplob Udyan in Sholashahar, Dr. Shahadat urged citizens to draw inspiration from the Liberation War and Ziaur Rahman’s ideals to safeguard the nation’s development trajectory.
Describing Biplob Udyan as a place of deep historical significance, he recalled that on the night of March 25, 1971, Ziaur Rahman issued a call to resist Pakistani occupation forces from this area, and the next day helped galvanise the Liberation War through the Kalurghat radio proclamation.
“Ziaur Rahman’s leadership, patriotism and courage will remain an enduring part of our independence history,” the mayor said. He also warned against attempts to distort the true spirit of the Liberation War and stressed the need for a Bangladesh founded on equality, justice, democracy and human values.
He urged all citizens to work together to achieve the discrimination-free, just and prosperous nation envisioned by Shaheed Ziaur Rahman.
Among those present were Chattogram Sammilit Peshajibi Parishad convener and journalist Zahidul Karim Kochi; Chattogram WASA managing director and AEB president Engr. Selim Mohammad Jane Alam; city council members Gazi Md. Siraj Ullah and Md. Kamrul Islam; BNP leaders Dr. Golam Quader Chowdhury Noble and Mohammad Idris Ali; and other party leaders and activists.
