Dhaka, Sep 24 (V7N)- The US dollar edged higher in Bangladesh's domestic currency market on Thursday, the final working day of the week, amid continued fluctuations in foreign exchange rates.
According to Bangladesh Bank data, the average market rate of the US dollar stood at Tk 123.22 on Thursday.
The central bank's listed buying rate for the dollar was Tk 123.15, while the selling rate was Tk 123.25.
While the dollar gained slightly, most other major foreign currencies recorded declines against the Bangladeshi taka in the central bank's latest exchange-rate list.
The euro was quoted at Tk 140.14 for buying and Tk 140.29 for selling. The British pound was listed at Tk 163.01 for buying and Tk 163.24 for selling.
The Chinese yuan traded at Tk 18.34–18.36, while the Japanese yen was listed at Tk 0.77. The Australian dollar stood at Tk 86.64–86.79 and the Singapore dollar at Tk 96.18–96.29.
The Indian rupee, however, remained unchanged, with both its buying and selling rates standing at Tk 1.28.
Foreign currency rates in the open market remained slightly higher than the rates listed by Bangladesh Bank for transactions through banking channels.
Currency-market fluctuations have continued in recent months amid international economic uncertainty and geopolitical developments, including instability in the Middle East.
