Washington, Sep 24 (V7N)- US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has outlined three possible outcomes that the Trump administration hopes its sweeping economic and strategic pressure campaign against Iran could produce.

Bessent made the remarks in an interview with Fox News, where he discussed the impact of the US sanctions and other measures targeting Iran's economy and financial networks.

According to Bessent, the first possible outcome is that mounting economic and psychological pressure could trigger divisions and internal power struggles within Iran's ruling establishment.

The second possibility, he said, is that widespread public discontent could develop into an uprising against the Iranian authorities.

The third scenario would involve Tehran returning to negotiations and reaching a new agreement with Washington, while being required to comply with the terms of any such deal.

Bessent also highlighted the impact of sanctions on Iran's international aviation sector. He said more than 80 to 90 percent of external flights from Iran had been shut down, raising uncertainty over how members of the Iranian delegation attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York would return home.

The Treasury secretary also warned financial institutions and businesses around the world against supporting Iran. He said Washington would pursue companies and financial accounts connected to those continuing to provide services or conduct business with Tehran.

Bessent described the administration's pressure campaign as an unprecedented effort to restrict Iran's access to international financial networks. Earlier US measures have also targeted Iran's aviation sector and warned foreign companies that providing services to Iranian airlines could expose them to secondary sanctions.

His remarks come as tensions between Washington and Tehran remain high, while Iranian officials have indicated that they are prepared to discuss reopening the Strait of Hormuz under certain conditions.
